Betty J Rufus, Affectionately known as (Cuddie) of Washington, DC, formerly of Elkton, Virginia Transitioned on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at George Washington University Hospital with her daughter Tonya at her side. She was the daughter of the late James Gordon Brown and Hattie Allen Brown
Betty received her education in The DC Public School System. After working 17 years Betty Retired in 2006 as a Federal worker for the National Gallery of Art, Building services Department she also served and enjoyed being a crossing guard in her community for the DC Public Schools.
Betty was the fun and loving Matriarch of our family, nothing made her more happier than spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she very much adored and cherished. Cuddie have always enjoyed entertaining family and friends and making sure everyone had a good time. She will always be remembered and appreciated for the MEMORABLE times we had together. She was an phenomenal cook, shopaholic and a serious diehard Redskin fan. She was loved by many and will truly be missed.
In addition to her parents Betty was proceeded in death by her husband of 50 years Albertus Jay Rufus, Daughter, Arlethia Brown (Lisa) Son, Jason Rufus and Sister Phyllis Brown (Sissy)
She is survived by her Daughters, Melba Jones Wanzer(Lamont) and Tonya Smith(Timothy). Granddaughters, LeJuan Dean, Taniya Smith, Lauren Jones, Tavia Smith and Tamara Jones. Great grand children, Kiya Dean, Savion Graves, Isiyah Holman and Amari Williams. Sisters, Pastor Elizabeth Stratterthwaites(Bruce), Thelma Harris, Priscilla Harris. Brothers, James Brown(Vernell) Edward Harris(Wilma), Andre Harris, Kevin Harris, Melvin Harris. Niece, Adrian Jones(John). Goddaughter, Nicole Darden and a host of nieces ,nephews, cousins, and friends.
There will be celebration at 1040 Southern Ave SE Washington, DC 20032 immediately after the burial.
