Ann E. Butler, affectionately known as "Mama" to many, was born on June 22, 1951 to the late Charles Henry Bowman Il and Mary Louise Johnson -Bowman in Marshall Hall of Charles County, Maryland. She gained her wings on August 11, 2023 in Lanham, Maryland.
Ann received her education from the public schools of Charles County. She graduated from Pomonkey High School in 1969 and became a wife and mother the same year. She married Eugene H. Butler on July 12, 1969, whom she met at her place of employment, Marshall Hall Park of Bryans Road, Maryland, in early 1968. Together, they had three children, Harold, Troy and Melissa.
Ann worked for the school board for over 30 years she took pride in her career and impacted many lives However nothing mattered more to Ann than her family. She absolutely loved family. As the family grew so did her love. She could not help herself to question almost every aspect of what was going on with everyone. She was inquisitive because she cared. It was all out of love and concern. She was the epitome of a mother. No matter what, she was there for her family and those that her family are close too. All were welcomed in her eyes. Her attributes was built on being sensitive but tough, sweet & sassy, quiet however, she can be very vocal. All in all, she was "Mama". Whatever she can do for you, she will.
Ann loved seeing a smile on one's face. Especially a child. The year was 1982. She's sitting out front of the townhouse of 1736 Village Green Dr. in Landover, Maryland. The Ice Cream truck came down the street. Her son seeing his friend "Mutt' walking towards it and a friend, Gene Dennis standing at the truck. He turns to her and asks if he can have money to get some fruity tootsie rolls She smiled and handed him one dollar. "This is the only one have left. You can have it". She says with a smile. He replied that he will forever remember the serial number of that dollar. That son in particular was Troy. By the way, that serial number was D96740089A.
Ann enjoyed family get-togethers, casinos, bingo, TV movies, her soap operas and watching her grands and great -grands. She has filled so many hearts with memories of every facet of life.
Ann is survived by her husband of 54 years, Eugene H. Butler; her sons Harold E. Butler, Troy Nathaniel Butler, Sr. (Melissa L. Butler) and daughter Melissa Ann Butler (Antoine Pierce). Her grandchildren; Crystal "Tia" Rogers, Kristen "Duey" James (Jaquan), Troy "J" Butler, Jr. (Britini), Tierra and Xavier. Her great -grandchildren; Joshua Battle, Andrew Battle, Rhea James and Shine Rountree. She also leave to cherish her memory are her siblings, Mary Jane Bowman, Ellen Hawkins (Leroy), Margaret "Linda" Colbert (Donald), John "Purnell" Bowman (Carolyn), Arthur "David" Bowman (Patricia), Anthony "Sherman" Bowman, Carl "Jeffrey" Bowman; her brother and sisters-in-law on her husband's side, Lorraine Butler (Ronald Daley) and Veronica Butler and many nephews, nieces and other family and friends.
Ann was preceded in death by her siblings, Agnes Watson, Charles Henry Bowman III "Bubba", Frances Butler, Joseph "Stephen" Bowman, William "Michael" Bowman and Herman "Randy" Bowman; her in - laws, Geraldine Driver, Lawrence Butler, Joseph Watson, Wilhemina Butler, Clifton "Killboy" Butler, Francis "Dinky' Butler and Wilhemina Bowman.
Mama will be truly missed and beloved beyond.
