IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Leonard
Smith
January 5, 1942 – January 26, 2024
On Friday January 26, 2024, beloved son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, and friend William Leonard Smith made his transition from this life to live an eternal life with our heavenly father. William affectionately known as Billy, was born on January 5, 1942. Billy, raised by his mother Louise Chappelle (pre-deceased), grew up in the Trinidad area of Northeast Washington DC, where he attended and graduated from McKinley Tech High School.
Billy had a very strong work ethic throughout his life. At the young age of 15, Billy started his job at Superior Carpet and became a master carpet installer, where he continued to work for over the next 40 years, until his retirement. After retirement Billy went on to work for the next 3 years at a few other businesses but most of his time was spent bowling, which was his favorite passion.
Billy, the father of four sons, was a kind and gentle spirit, friendly and outgoing, he never met a stranger. He loved action movies, baseball, and his favorite team was the Yankees. Billy loved to listen to music, his favorite song artists were Phyllis Hyman and Michael Jackson.
Billy was blessed with a loving family who all loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends who have solace in knowing he is embraced and resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
Billy leaves to cherish his loving memory: Three sons; Alonzo Smith, Daryl Smith, and Amari Smith. Two daughter-in-laws Crystal Smith and Melissa Smith. Four grandchildren; Tiara Smith, Kendall Smith, Ebony Smith, Destiney Smith, and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Billy is preceded in death by his mother Louise Chappelle; his son Kelly Smith, and his sister Rose Harper.
May the memory of Billy, his laugh, his words, his smile, live on in our hearts forever.
