IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tyrone R
Batts
September 1, 1950 – September 2, 2025
REMBERING TYRONE
Tyrone Ricardo Batts was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 1st, 1950. He attended New York City Public Schools and graduated from Copiague High School in Long Island in 1969. Tyrone relocated to Virginia in the mid 1970's and worked at Ft Belvoir Army Base where he secured a position and soon established himself as a skilled and respected Chef. It was during this time that he also stepped into another important role and became a father to his first born. In 1981 Tyrone married his better half Vernada Rose Eaglin and from their union 3 children were born. In 1983 the family moved to Maryland, and their home quickly became the hub of their family's activities and a place where everyone was welcomed.
Tyrone was a man who lived life with honesty, simplicity, and love. Known for being down to earth and unapologetically blunt, he always spoke his mind—but those who knew him best understood that every word came from a place of deep care and wisdom.
A chef by trade and by heart, Tyrone found joy in creating meals that brought people together. He wasn't just a cook, he was a teacher in the kitchen, always explaining recipes, sharing techniques, and showing others the love that goes into preparing a good meal. One of his favorite times was Saturday mornings, when grits and sausage were always on the table. Those breakfasts became a family tradition, filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Above all, Tyrone was a great example of a man taking care of his household. He provided not only with his hands and hard work but also with his heart and wisdom. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he loved them unconditionally.
Tyrone ascended to his resting place on Tuesday September 2nd. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Marley. His beloved wife, Vernada Batts. Seven Siblings: Russell Batts Jr., James W. Batts Sr., David Batts Sr., Janet Batts, Helen Batts, Bonita Batts, Lucinda Batts. He leaves his loved ones to celebrate his life: his four loving children: Tamela Antionette Addison, Vernada Victoria Batts, Elisa Eudora Creech (Alonn), Tyrone Gabriel Batts. Seven loving Grandchildren: Alonzo and Amari Nichols, Victoria and Angel Skeete, Aide, Adrian and Grace Creech. Two devoted Nephews/God sons: David (Tippy) Batts (Tracy), Darius Batts (Yolanda). Eight beloved Siblings: Raymond Batts Sr., Martha Ali (Vicent), Pauline Batts, Dietrich Batts, Denise Batts, Danny Batts, Bernadette Batts, Teresa Davis-Green (Justin). Along with a host of beloved nieces and nephew and loving In-laws.
Tyrone will be remembered for his honesty, his humor, his gift for cooking, and the way he shared both food and wisdom so generously. Though his chair at the breakfast table will be empty, his recipes, his lessons, and his love will live on through his family.
