The Life of Mavis Elizabeth Weeks

A Cherished Legacy

Born on June 30, 1931, in Ayden, North Carolina, Mavis Elizabeth Dudley entered the world as one of ten children to Pete and Leanna Dudley. Her family affectionately called her Sis. Among her siblings, those who have gone home to be with the Lord include Lillian Moore, Dallas Dudley, Pete Dudley Jr., Roy Dudley, Ernest Dudley, Jimmy Dudley, and Bobby Dudley. She is survived by her two living siblings, Jesse Dudley and Clinton Dudley.

Mavis was married to the late Matthew Weeks Senior, and from their union, five children were born. She received her education in the Pitt County Public School System and went on to work various jobs within the District of Columbia.

Mavis was a loving and kind spirit, dedicating her life wholeheartedly to her family. She cherished her country roots and integrated them into every aspect of her life. Renowned for her culinary skills, Mavis delighted her family with Sunday soul food dinners. Her green thumb was legendary, as she could make any plant grow and thrive. Moreover, her faith in the Lord was unwavering, often sharing with family and friends that the Lord had her and that God is in control.

Her work ethic was formidable, as she continued to work well into her late seventies. Later in life, she discovered a talent for making jewelry, which developed into a thriving business, selling her creations to family and friends. Mavis spent her later years in the loving care of her granddaughter and grandson, Cassandra and Albert Harkless. Her family is her enduring legacy.

Preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Mavis Jean Riddick, she leaves behind to cherish her memories, her children Linda Weeks Mills, Brenda Weeks Williams, Debra Weeks, and Matthew Weeks Jr. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, including Cassandra Harkless, Andrea Olive, Cykethia Britton, Pierre Noel, Delonta Lane, Richardo McCloud, Myracle Weeks, Whitney West, and Krystal Reeder, along with numerous great-grandchildren.

Mavis Elizabeth Dudley's life is a testament to love, dedication, and the enduring bonds of family. Her legacy continues to thrive through the cherished memories of all who knew and loved her.
