IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria Mae
Barber
January 15, 1940 – May 9, 2024
On Thursday, May 9th, 2024, Wife, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother. Great Great Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and Friend Gloria Mae Barber, made her transition from this life to live an eternal life with our heavenly father. Gloria was born on January 15th, 1940 in Washington, DC; she was the second of three children born to the late Stanley Jones Sr, and Carrie Allen Jones.
Growing up, Gloria was educated in the D.C. Public Schools system. She had a warm and caring heart. Gloria had a way of caring for each person individually. Whatever that person required, she knew exactly what to do, or say to make them feel warm and special.
In 1957 Gloria joined hands in holy matrimony with the love of her life, John Aquilla Barber Sr. (Pre-deceased); and to this union 6 children were born, Gloria loved being a mother & grandmother, spending time with all her children & grandchildren and would always prepare a large feast for the holidays. She enjoyed watching the Price is Right, but you better not call when her show was on. Gloria was a diehard Commanders fan. She loved shopping, going on cruises, dancing and taking bus trips to the casinos. Gloria was a hard worker and worked as a floor supervisor and after many years of dedicated service Gloria retired from Le'fant Plaza Hotel.
She loved her kids so much that during her Dementia she never forgot them. Gloria got confused sometimes but she always knew who we were; probably because we got on her nerves. She had a good listening ear; always offered you a place to stay and a love bond no one could break.
Gloria also loved the Lord, and was a member of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church where she volunteered to work in the pantry where she passed out food to the people in need. She was also a member of United Methodist Woman and Yesterday's Children.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Gregory (Joyce) Angela (Kevin) John, Janice and Philip; her grandchildren, Leon, Michael, Noah, and Michael R., her great grandchildren Dejah, Jason and Zaria; her great, great grandchild Riley; her sister, Lorraine and a host of cousins, other loving relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John A. Barber Sr., son; Bernard Barber, brother; Stanley H. Jones Jr. and Grandparents; Edward H. Jones and Carrie A. Jones,
Gloria was blessed with a large and loving family whom all loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends who have solace in knowing she is embraced and resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior. May the memory of Gloria, her laugh, her words, her smile, live on in our hearts for many years to come.
