George Randolph Higgins, affectionately known as "Rannie," was born on October 28th, 1939, in the town of Kitty, Georgetown Guyana, South America to the late George Michael Higgins and Margaret Isabella Higgins. George was the fifth of the nine Higgins children. He was raised in a very supportive family, rooted in the religious community of the Anglican church. George was a deeply contemplative individual, who was keenly interested in travel, pursuing education and playing sports. As a young man, he enjoyed playing cricket, and was competitive in soccer, track and field. George graduated from St. James-the Less Anglican School in Guyana. In 1963, George met and married his first wife Norma and from this union five children were born. George continued his pursuit for higher education and moved with his family to London, England. In 1967, George graduated from Plaistow Technical College, currently known as Newham College, with a degree in Engineering. While living in London, George visited several counties in Europe including Ireland. After London, George returned to Guyana and took a position as a superintendent with the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO) and taught welding and fabrication at the newly constructed New Amsterdam Technical Institute. After ten years of dedicated service to GUYSUCO, George immigrated to the United States, where he continued to work in the field of engineering and maintenance in support of his family. George met and married his second wife Beverly and they both became members of the Emmanuel Brinklow Seventh-day Adventist Church where he would serve as a deacon for many years. George passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital surrounded by his family. George is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Beverly, her grandson Samuel Bartholomew, as well as his grieving siblings – Elaine, Clarence, Lloyd, Brenda and Oscar. George was a man of resilience, focus, sacrifice and achievement; he always put God and his family first. His memory will be a blessing.
