IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emma A.
Wells
January 4, 1951 – July 2, 2024
Emma Alberta "Bunchie" Jackson, aged seventy-three, passed away on July 2, 2024, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Emma was born during a particularly chilly D.C. winter on January 4, 1951, but she spent her life proving that she was anything but cold. Nurtured as the fifth of eleven siblings, Emma was a testament to the close bonds and shared laughter that define a large and loving family. Emma was a proud graduate of Central High School in Capital Heaights, Maryland, and her early education was shaped by her time at D.C., Albemarle, and Orange County Public Schools.
For over twenty turns of the earth, Emma danced with machines, a maestro in the symphony of circuits and motherboards at Unisys, her fingers weaving enchantments into the loom of technology. Later, she traded in her tech hat for a name tag at Giant Food, where she spent over a quarter-century.
A woman of joy and warmth, Emma embraced life with enthusiasm. Her love for dance and music was evident to all who knew her, as was her fondness for leisurely activities such as watching her favorite football team, the Washington redskins, casino visits, lottery games, puzzles, and culinary pursuits. A frequent social media user, particularly on Facebook, she also reveled in the joys of family life, especially in the company of her beloved granddaughter, Jasleena Skye Jackson, whom she adored.
Our leading lady bequeaths her legacy to the keepers of her heart: her devoted daughter, Denadra Chantel Reddick, of Gaithersburg; her son-in-law, the steadfast Darnell "Jr" Edwards; her son, the noble Percy Marcellous Jackson of Largo; her daughter-in-love, the gracious Javonn Jackson; and her granddaughter, the radiant Jasleena Skye.
Emma's journey to the stars was preceded by the departure of her kin: brother Percy "Sunny" Woods; sister Dorothy "Dot" Price; father Alfred "Slick" Jackson; and Mother Gladys Mae Cook-Sanders, who now welcome her with open arms in the realm beyond the veil.
The celebration of Emma's grand finale will be held at Hedgman Chapel 7531 Old Alexandria Ferry Rd., Clinton, MD 20735, on Sat July 27, 2024, at 12 30 PM. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish to express sympathy to consider a donation to help with unexpected expenses. Please visit, https://everloved.com/life-of/emma-jackson, to contribute.
A thank you to Hedgman Funeral Home for being the stage managers during this production. Emma's encore will be the love and laughter she left echoing in our hearts, and the stories that will be told and retold, each time with a little more embellishment, just the way she would have wanted. Curtain call, Bunchie, take your well-earned rest.
