IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edwina Pina
Brown
October 6, 1946 – May 17, 2024
On Sunday, October 6, 1946, a beautiful baby girl was born in Osterville, Massachusetts, to Edwin and Mary Pina. On Friday, May 17, 2024, Edwina Pina Brown continued her next journey after an eight-year battle with cancer, passing peacefully with her son, sister, and niece at her bedside.
Edwina received her education at Barnstable High School, graduating in the Class of 1964. During her entire four years, she received awards as Best Female Athlete for Basketball, Softball, and Field Hockey. Sports was her lifelong passion, and she was crazy about her beloved Patriots, Giants, Celtics, and Red Sox. Besides sports, she loved listening to music and reading her Bible.
After high school, Edwina met and married John C. Brown, Jr. in 1967, and from this union a handsome baby boy, John Brown III, was born. John III and his mother had a special bond, which eventually resulted in them sharing a home in Maryland until her passing. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Upon moving to Maryland, Edwina embarked on a fulfilling career with the US Postal Service, retiring after thirty-six years to care for her mother. At an early age, she demonstrated strong leadership qualities, which she used to coach, train, mentor, and advocate for others. It was there, also, that she met lifelong friends whom she loved and who loved her dearly. Equally, she encountered everlasting friends while working at the Millikin Bus Lot, for Prince Georges County Public Schools.
On her 77-year journey, Edwina touched and influenced many lives. She will be forever remembered for her love, generosity, and compassionate heart. Her wit and laughter are indelibly captured in our ears. Even while in pain, she still had the ability to make you laugh.
In addition to her parents, Edwina is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Pina; a sister, Beatrice Chatman; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Pina.
She leaves her love and legacy to be cherished by her loving son, John Brown III; two sisters, an adoringly devoted "twin" sister, Janie Bizzell (Gene), of Mt. Olive, North Carolina; and Patricia Lopes (Manuel), of Hyannis, Massachusetts; two brothers, Edwin (Emily) Pina, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and David Pina, of Cotuit, Massachusetts.
She and her delicious pumpkin bread will be missed by all who know her, including a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
